Mohamed Salah was substituted with an injury during the first half of the AFCON match between Egypt and Ghana.
The Athletic reports that the Liverpool striker has been ruled out with a hamstring injury.
Almost immediately after his departure Ghana took a 1-0 lead through a Mohammed Kudus goal.
If Egypt lose they will face the real threat of relegation and it will be less of a problem for Liverpool if Salah is out for several weeks.
