Diario AS reports that Manchester City are demanding 8 million to allow Kalvin Phillips into January. But they only agreed to release the player on loan.
Pep Guardiola does not see the England international as an integral part of his first team but Man City are looking for a business venture to sell him with a number of clubs interested in the midfielder including Barcelona.
The price tag on the 28 year-old is likely to keep him out of Barca. Blaugrana are known to find the cheapest option on the market due to their financial constraints.
Last summer Barca signed Oriol Romeu for 3.2 million although the club have not been fully paid.
Barca also signed Ilkay Gundogan and Inigo Martinez as free agents. It's a strategy they have been using since 2021.
Phillips is a versatile defensive midfielder. But there is little chance that Barca beat Newcastle and Juventus to sign him.
