The Red Devils have been given new hope in the chase after Spurs majority owner Joe Lewis decided that the Englishman will not be allowed to run down his contract and leave for free in 2024.
This has left chairman Daniel Levy with the choice of trying to make him sign a new deal or quickly selling him for a profit.
This has given Man United new-found hope as they are thinking about making a bid to take him away from Spurs.
A potential stumbling block in the deal could be Tottenham’s demands of at least £100m to sell him, something the Red Devils can’t afford.
But they could soon start negotiating with their Premier League opponents if the London side shows a willingness to sell him.
Kane was Erik ten Hag’s no.1 summer target at the end of last season, and the gaffer would be delighted if Man United could sign him.
The Red Devils will, however, face stiff competition from Bayern Munich – who recently had a £70m bid rejected for him.
