According to El Nacional, there were Barca players who were happy that Lionel Messi's return to the club hit the rocks - among those were Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Ousmane Dembele and Ansu Fati.
While the general consensus at Barca was that Messi's return would massively help the club's progress next season, there were others who felt his comeback would not benefit the dressing room.
Messi confirmed in his press conference after choosing to join Inter Miami that some persons at the club didn't want his return, but it was assumed he was only referring to politicians, not ex-teammates.
It is almost believable that Ter Stegen and Ansu might've been apprehensive about Messi's return. In the case of the German goalie, he highlighted he always had differences with Messi during his farewell message to Leo in 2021.
"Leo, it has been a pleasure to have played with you for all these years and experienced many important joys regarding moments and titles, even if we don't share the same opinion from time to time, we always went in the same direction and each of us grew as a person beyond winning or losing," Ter Stegen wrote when Messi left Barca.
In the case of Ansu, it was possible that Barca would've sold him to accommodate Messi's wage bill. However, there's no logical or illogical explanation for why Dembele wouldn't want Messi back.
It must also be noted that El Nacional isn't the most believable source out there.
