The 1998 FIFA World Cup is the 16th World Cup to be held in France from June 10 to 12 july 1998 France was chosen by FIFA for the second time in the history of the tournament . This is the first time in the group stage that the number of teams has been increased from 24 to 32. 64 matches played in 10 stadiums in 10 cities with the opening and final matches taking place at the Stade de France.

France's bid to host World Cup focuses on 80,000-seat national stadium 9 more across the country. A total of 10 stadiums were used for the match. Nine matches played at the Stade de France (most used stadium six more matches took place at the Parc des Princes of Paris Saint-Germain, bringing the total to Paris. Host up to 15. Seven matches at the National Stadium and Lyon hosted a total of six matches. Nantes, Toulouse, Bordeaux,Montpellier and Saint-Etienne have hosted six games.
