The 1998 FIFA World Cup is the 16th World Cup to be held in France from June 10 to 12 july 1998 France was chosen by FIFA for the second time in the history of the tournament . This is the first time in the group stage that the number of teams has been increased from 24 to 32. 64 matches played in 10 stadiums in 10 cities with the opening and final matches taking place at the Stade de France.

Seven matches at the National Stadium and Lyon hosted a total of six matches. Nantes, Toulouse, Bordeaux,Montpellier and Saint-Etienne have hosted six games.

Finals
The final was held on July 12, 1998 at the Stade de France, Saint-Denis. France beat Brazil 3-0. Two goals by Zidane and a goal by Emmanuel Petit. The victory gave France their first World Cup title becoming the sixth national team after Uruguay, Italy, England, West Germany and Argentina to win the match at home.
