A few weeks ago reports emerged of an agreement between Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital stating that the chairmanship could be rotated between them every five years.
The Daily Mail now confirms those claims adding that a decision has already been made and Todd Boehly will replace Chelsea chairman in 2027.
In practice it may not change too much. Clearlake Capital a private equity firm owned by Behdad Eghbali and Jose Feliciano already has a 61.5 per cent stake in the club. The signatures of Eghbali and Boehly are required for all major decisions at the club.
It is not clear whether Clearlake Capital will take on the role on its own or bring in someone from outside. In any case it will not be Boehly though he will have a chance to return in 2032 if he keeps his stock and interest in the role.
